Signing In and Signing Out Procedures for Middle and High School Students

Students in grades 6-11 must always sign in and sign out in the main office.

Seniors must sign in and sign out in the main office when they are missing/leaving early from or are late to a class.

If a student needs to leave early, they must bring a note from a parent indicating the time that they need to sign out. They will show this note to their teacher when they need to sign out. They will then need to take the note to the front office and turn it in before signing out.

For emergency/last minute changes in schedule, a parent will need to call the school so that we can let the student know and follow up with an email to jmartin@pinewoodprep.com AND jaltman@pinewoodprep.com  for attendance reporting.

 College Representative

There will be a college representative from Anderson University visiting on Tuesday, December 14th at 2:30 in the conference room. Students interested should check in with their study hall teacher and then come to the meeting. If  you have a class 7th period see Mr. Diffley for permission.

Health and Safety

Good morning from the School Nurse’s office!

I have revised the wording in our COVID-19 policy to make it a little more objective. I have also included a policy update for the use of at-home tests, as many parents are having difficulty finding availability at local test sites. A big thanks to everyone who reached out to express a need for clarification. I have been working with Daniel Shirley to ensure our News and Announcements and RCC Policies and Procedures reflect the same wording.

Below are the highlights but I have also attached the policy document with specifics regarding quarantine and isolation. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  Please know that I am always happy for you to refer parents to me with questions.

Signs / Symptoms of COVID-19 & Attendance

All Pinewood families, faculty, and staff members are asked to be vigilant toward any potential COVID-19 symptoms and keep themselves or their students home when deemed necessary.   Individuals should remain out of school if they have any of the following with or without fever:

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing -or –
  • Loss of taste or smell -or –
  • New or worsening cough.

***If these symptoms are explainable by an underlying condition (such as shortness of breath for an individual with asthma) exclusion may not be necessary and should be discussed with the school nurse. Other COVID-19 symptoms may include: · fever, · chills, · fatigue, · muscle or body aches, · headache, · sore throat, · congestion or runny nose,· nausea/vomiting, -and/or-· diarrhea.  Anyone with any combination (2 or more) of these ‘other’ symptoms with or without fever should also remain home and contact the school nurse to discuss clearance for return to campus. A person can spread the virus up to two (2) days before they have any symptoms, but many COVID-19 cases show no symptoms at all.  To stress the importance of staying home for any COVID-related concern, absences will be excused, and students will not be recognized for perfect attendance this school year.

At-Home Testing

To ease frustration related to limited test site availability, we will accept results of home testing.   The success of our school year depends on honest reporting and proper testing technique.  We will rely on the well-established expectations of Pinewood’s Honor Code to guide honesty with respect to reporting accurate results.  If any member of our community is uncertain of technique for proper at-home testing, the school nurse will be available as a guide.  We strongly recommend confirmatory testing for symptomatic individuals with a positive at-home test.   At-home tests may NOT be used as proof of immunity for 90 days following an active infection, which is one reason that confirmatory testing is so important.   We also recognize, as with all rapid tests, there is a higher probability of false positives for asymptomatic individuals using the test for screening purposes.  Thus, we will also strongly recommend confirmatory testing for any asymptomatic individual who tests positive.

Thank you for doing your part to keep the Pinewood community healthy!
